Crépuscule hivernal sans fin sur les terres de la guerre, premier album de Neige et Noirceur, est une expérience extrême de déprivation sensorielle. Le black metal atmosphérique du one-man band québécois est aussi hostile qu'austère et si on voulait schématiser l'album, on pourrait dire que le nombre de notes utilisées tient sur les doigts d'une main. Spiritus ne nous laisse aucun repère musical ; les quelques samples construisent un royaume de glace et de mort plongé dans l'obscurité. Intense !

Le black metal atmosphérique et le froid, c'est une histoire d'amour ; les exemples — Paysage d'hiver, Lunar Aurora, et j'en passe — sont beaucoup trop nombreux. Mais L'Abîme des jours, L'écume des nuits, démo du groupe québécois Neige et Noirceur (qui comprend aussi une démo supplémentaire sur cette version), ça joue dans une autre cour. C'est le genre de froid qui prend par surprise, celui qui vous empêche de respirer. Les nappes ambiantes suivent le vent, se distordent : c'est effroyable.

Another new album that will rank very high among the hellenic black metal olympus !! I mean, Greece has produced many respected and often cited black metal bands, while Thipsis is recent, the band's members are experienced musicians, and they aimed high with their debut album, setting very high standards. Amazing guitar work all around with some remarkable passages (e.g. beginning of "Eternal Sleep..."). High marks!!

Faire passer le black par un équipement daté pour rendre le son brut de décoffrage, j'ai longtemps pensé que c'était Staurophagia le maître en la matière mais Obsidian Tongue l'a fait avant lui et tout aussi bien dans son premier opus, Volume I: Subradiant Architecture. On se retrouve ainsi avec un black metal qui rend hommage à l'école norvégienne, entre poésie ésotérique ("Approaching the Well", "It Dangles from the Bones") et guitares furieuses, mais il est aussi très moderne. Un bon album !
